Here is what you need to make this crockpot chicken parmesan soup + substitutions?
Chicken breasts- Chicken breasts are ideal here. It kind of wouldn’t be chicken parmesan without them!
Parmesan- We grate fresh parmesan but pre-grated works as well too!
Marinara sauce- All chicken parmesan has to have a delicious red sauce! We love Rao’s, it’s always our go-to and we usually get it in bulk from Costco.
Tomato sauce- Tomato sauce helps bring some thickness as well as flavor. It’s the perfect base for soups, pasta, and stews, easily absorbing herbs and spices for a customized taste.
Heavy cream- This adds the best creaminess to the sauce. You could substitute with whole milk or half and half if that’s what you have but heavy cream will give you the best result.
Chicken broth- Lately, we have been using our homemade broth in everything, but we absolutely love the brand kettle and fire when we buy store bought. You can use the code DADDIOSKITCHEN for 20% off. This is not a low sodium option, but if you do you use another broth with low sodium add more salt to taste!
Fresh mozzarella- We love to buy a big block of whole milk mozzarella from Azure Standard. Then we usually grate that ourselves.
Parmesan- For this dish, we did freshly grated parmesan, but pre-grated also works.
Sea salt- We use Redmond sea salt, it’s our favorite and we use it in everything! You can use the code daddioskitchen for 15% off. We get the big big bag!
Black pepper- Pepper is a must in most cooking.
Dried oregano- This is a fragrant herb with a bold, earthy flavor, commonly used in Italian and Mediterranean cooking to enhance sauces, meats, and soups.
Dried basil- Adding dried basil gives this soup a great flavor!
