All you have to do is make the jar and attach a little handwritten tag (not pictured) with instructions. It’s also easy to customize by adding in any add-in’s you like. What you need to make Christmas Cookies in a Jar:

  • All-purpose flour- I typically bake with all-purpose flour. Almond and coconut flour do not have the same measurements so they will not work for this. However, gluten-free 1:1 all-purpose flour should work just fine. Make sure to find one with xantham gum, I love Bob’s Red Mill, but any should do.
  • Baking soda- Helps to produce a light and fluffy and perfectly cooked Christmas cookie.
  • Sea salt- Salt is key in a baked good, because it really helps to bring out the flavor! This is our favorite brand, we buy the 10lb bag. You can use the code DADDIO for 15% off.
  • Brown sugar- Brown sugar gives it that caramel note and adds the perfect sweetness as well as giving these cookies that deep rich brown color.
  • Granulated sugar- A classic in any recipe. You can use white sugar, cane sugar, whatever you prefer. I haven’t tested coconut sugar.
  • Chocolate chips- I chose to do semi-sweet chocolate chips but you can use dark, milk, whatever you like.
  • White chocolate chips- I love adding in the white chocolate chips for a pop of bright white.
  • Christmas M&M’s- I used these M&M’s to make these cookies fun and festive for Christmas! You could use any holiday M&M or regular M&M to make these in any season!
  • Unsalted butter- You can use salted as well but I always go for unsalted in baking.
  • Eggs- The eggs help bind the recipe and really help give it taste and texture. Make sure these are room temperature as well (on the counter for at least an hour) to help the recipe bind together better.
  • Vanilla extract- No baked good recipe is complete without vanilla extract in my opinion. It’s key!

  • Twine
  • Card for directions

Ingredients

For the Jar:

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar light or dark
  • ½ cups Christmas M&M’s
  • ½ cup chocolate chips

For the Handwritten Note Directions:

  • 8 tbsp unsalted butter softened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg

Instructions

For the Jar:

  • In a large mixing bowl, add in the flour, baking soda, and sea salt. Mix well.
  • Add the flour mixture to your mason jar, you can wipe the sides down on the inside if you want to make sure you get a clean line!
  • Then add the brown sugar on top of that. Pack it down & wipe the sides again if needed.
  • Add the cane sugar.
  • Then add the toppings: you can really play around here! You just need about 1.5 cups mix in’s. Here are some combo ideas: M&M’s + chocolate chips/ cookies white chocolate chips + crushed pepperment / chocolate chips + caramel chips. You want to make sure there isn’t any excess space so things don’t move around! I did 1/2 cup each of white chocolate chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips & M&M’s!
  • To the mason jar, attach a little card (you can print it out) with what’s below:

Ingredients Needed:

  • 8 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350F degrees.
  • In a large mixing bowl, add in the softened butter. Mix using a hand mixer. Then add in the egg and vanilla extract. Mix and it's okay if it's not totally combined, it will combine with the dry ingredients. Dump in all the dry ingredients. Mix until everything is combined.
  • Drop by rounded 1 ½ Tbsp-sized scoops onto a greased cookie sheet and bake for 9-11 minutes. Cool on baking sheet and enjoy!
